The Wattisham Tote Bag PDF Pattern by Emma Brennan of Charlie's Aunt includes sewing instructions and pattern templates for creating a large, simple, roomy, retro style tote, which features pleats front and back, and an interior patch pocket with tab fastener. It can be made with a contrasting lower panel or with a pleated front/back panel all in one. Wattisham, named after the WWII Suffolk airfield, is perfectly sized for everyday use, from shopping trips to days at the beach. It makes up beautifully in most fabrics, from Charlie’s Aunt signature British tweeds, corduroy and velvet, to practical cotton canvas. Made with purchased webbing straps or leather straps. Finished size: 14" H x 16" W (at the widest point), with 34" strap lengths.

Materials needed:

  • 14" contrast fabric
  • 20" main fabric
  • 20" lining fabric
  • 14" x 36" fleece stabilizer
  • 1-1/4 yds of 36" wide fusible interfacing
  • magnetic snap - bag flap
  • optional smaller magnetic snap - interior pocket tab
  • (2) or (3) 1" buttons - flap
  • 4 yds of 1" wide cotton webbing OR 76" of 3/4" wide leather strap + 8 rivets
  • [View 2] Bag with no contrasting lower front/back panel:
    • 14" contrast fabric - main pleated front/back panel all in one
    • 18" contrast fabric - upper front/back panels, facings and flap
