The Sew 'N' Go Quilted Handbag PDF Pattern by Jo-Lydia's Attic includes sewing instructions to make your very own one-of-a-kind quilted handbag, using two fabrics you quilt together with batting in between. You can substitute already-quilted, double-faced fabric for the bag panels and a coordinating print for the straps, upper band, and straps. Yardage and cutting for this option are on page 8. Jumbo rickrack trim adds a touch of whimsy, but if you prefer a more tailored look, eliminate it. With multiple pockets that line the inside (3 on each side) and a pocket on each panel on the outside for a total of 8, this pretty bag has lots of places to stash what you need. All inside seams are bound so there are no raw edges in sight. Shoulder-length straps make it easy to tuck this bag under your arm. Tuck an easy-to-make support in the bottom of your bag, add what you need, and your bag is ready to grab ’n’ go. Finished size: 11" H x 13" W x 4 1/2" D.

Materials needed:

  • 1 yd Print #1
  • 1 yd Print #2
  • 7/8 yard contrasting Print #3
  • 15” x 21" and 21” square of thin batting
  • package of coordinating extra-wide bias tape for finishing the inside seam around the bottom of the bag (OR make your own)
  • (2) 2-1/2" x 40" strips of medium-weight fusible interfacing for the straps OR 1" wide webbing
  • 20” square of lightweight fusible interfacing
  • Optional: magnetic snap closure
  • Optional: 2 packages jumbo rickrack for the band, pocket, and strap trim
