The Urban Tote Bag Pattern by Amy Barickman is a convenient tote bag that is the perfect showcase for your favorite fabric! Three different options are offered with this sewing bag pattern, including using Texture Magic to texturize the middle focus fabric! This pattern has interior pockets and large outside pockets with a finished size of 9 1/2"H x 15"W (this bag tapers to 9 1/2" at the bottom) x 4 1/4"D excluding handles.

Materials Needed:

  • View A – Fabric Version with Grommet Detail (large photo on left of cover)
  • 1 yard fabric A (exterior side pockets, bottom, lining, handles, tabs)
  • 1/2 yard fabric B (center panel)
  • 1/3 yard fabric C (sides)
  • 1 package (18” x 58”) foam batting such as Soft & Stable
  • 4 square grommets with inner diameter 1 1/2"
  • 1 magnetic snap closure
  • 1" square of fusible heavy weight interfacing for magnetic snap backing
  • View B - Steam-activated Shrinking Fabric Center Panel Version (upper right photo on cover)
  • 1 yard fabric A (exterior side pockets, bottom, lining, handles)
  • 1/2 yard fabric B (center panel)
  • 1/3 yard fabric C (sides)
  • 2 pieces batting such as Warm & Natural 15” x 14”
  • 1 package (18” x 58”) foam batting such as Soft & Stable
  • 1 package of Steam-activated shrinking fabric such as Stitch & Steam by Bosal or Texture Magic by Superior Threads (enough to cut out 2 - 15” x 14” pieces)
  • 1 magnetic snap closure
  • 1" square of fusible heavy weight interfacing for magnetic snap backing
  • 4 – 1 inch Rectangle Rings
  • View C – Wonky Log Cabin Center Panel Version (lower right photo on cover)
  • 1 yard fabric A (exterior side pockets, bottom, lining, handles)
  • 1/3 yard fabric B (sides)
  • 4 or more coordinating fat quarters for wonky log cabin center panel
  • 1 package (18” x 58”) foam batting such as Soft & Stable
  • 1 magnetic snap closure
  • 1" square of fusible heavy weight interfacing for magnetic snap backing
  • 4 – 1 inch Rectangle Rings
