The Coronation Clutch is a vintage Inspired clutch bag based on the decade when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned. This is an elegant sewing pattern designed by Charlie's Aunt and is for an oversized clutch bag with a choice of flaps. The clutch has a front panel pleated onto a yoke and a plain back. One version has a T-shaped flap trimmed with buttons while the second features an asymmetrical flap finished with a neat rounded bow, popular in fifties fashions. Both included an interior patch pocket. The bags measure 16” W x 9” H.
Materials List:
- 2/3 yard of 54" wide or 1 yard of 44" wide woolen or decorator fabric for the bag exterior
- 1/2 yard of 44" wide lining fabric for bag lining and interior pocket
- 1/3 yard of 36" wide fusible interfacing for flap
- 1 magnetic snap closure set
- Additional for View A:
- 2 large vintage or new buttons, approximately 1 1/4" in diameter for flap trim
- Additional for View B:
- Piece of fusible web 3" x 5" for bow center
- Optional for Both Versions:
- For extra body and shape, add a layer of fleece behind the interfacing. This option will require 1/3 yard of fleece
- Rotary hole-punch to make neat holes for magnetic snaps
- Small pliers for applying magnetic snap closure
