The Dawn To Dusk backpack is very practical (and stylish!) bag with 5 pen pockets, a small coin pocket, and a front flap pocket
with a zipper. There are 2 handy side pockets with magnetic snaps and the inside has a slip pocket with elastic that fits a small laptop.
The straps are adjustable and the finished size is 14" X 13" x 6" (36cm x 33cm x 15cm). Because of all this backpack pattern special
features, it is recommended for sewers with experience.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Exterior fabric: 115cm (1¼ yard) of 112cm (40”) wide fabric
- Lining fabric: 125cm (49”) of 112cm (44”) wide fabric
- Sew-in interfacing: Mid-weight – 50cm (½ yard) of 112cm (44”) wide interfacing. I used Pre-washed Shape-Well
(Use fusible if you prefer, such as Shape-Flex SF101)
- Fusible interfacing: Mid-weight – 25cm (10”) of 112cm (44”) wide interfacing
- Fusible fleece: Light weight – 50cm (½ yard); I used Vilene H 630 – 40cm wide (16”); substitute with Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece or
Thermo Web
- Matching thread (I use Gutermann Polyester)
- 1 piece of firm single side fusible Peltex – 26.6cm X 13.3cm (10½” X 5¼”) for base, or alternatively you can use any similar firm single
sided fusible stabilizer
- 1 X 61cm (24”) zipper to match exterior (you can cut down a larger one if you need to) for the top
- 1 X 36cm (14”) zipper or longer for the Front Pocket
- 1 X 20cm (8”) zipper or longer to match lining fabric for the Interior Zipper Pocket
- Piece of 12mm (½”) elastic, 26.6cm (10½”) long
- 115.5cm X 2.5cm (45½”X 1”) webbing for the adjustable straps {Lengths cut as 2 X 38cm(15”), 1 X 16.5cm(6½”), 2 X 11.5cm(4½”)
- 2 X strap adjusters to suit 25mm (1”) webbing
- 4 X 12mm (½”) bag feet
- 4 X 20mm (¾”) buckles
- 4 X eyelets that your buckle’s pins will fit through; I used 5.5mm (3/16”) inner hole diameter
- 1 X 18mm regular magnetic snap for the Front Pocket
- 2 x 14mm regular magnetic snaps for the Side Pockets
- Fray stopper or fabric glue
This PDF backpack pattern has a total of 105 pages. There is a 1 page cover photo, 1 page of printing instructions, 1 page of printer check measurements, 63 pages of instructions and step-by-step color photos. There are also 20 pattern pieces and a 13 page insert of easy to print directions in case you do not want to print the color photos.
