The Quilted Workbag pattern has directions for both a quilted tote or a regular, soft lined bag and includes instructions for quilting your own bag.
Materials Needed: 44/45" wide fabric with at least 42" usable width
- Fabric A: Bag Exterior - 1 1/4 yd (all over or one way design)
- Fabric B: Lining & Flat Piping Trim - 1 1/8 yd
- Fabric C: Bottom, Contrast, Straps, Button Loop - 1/2 yd; if using a plaid on the bias as shown in the bag photo, you will need 7/8 yd of Fabric C
- Thin batting: (2) 17" x 23" rectangles
- Fusible knit, woven, or weft-insertion interfacing: (do not use nonwoven fusible interfacing)
- (1) 2" x 10" strip and (1) 10" x 16" rectangle for inside zipped pocket
- (1) 4 1/2" x 30" strip for upper band
- (1) 7" x 21" piece for body and durability in bottom contrast panel (not necessary on decorator-weight fabrics)
- 9" zipper for inside hanging pocket
- (1) 1 1/4" diameter button
- NOTE: already quilted, double sided fabric can be used but the yardage is different (see page 5 for instructions)
- Materials for regular lined workbag: 44" fabric - bag front and back are pieced from 2 coordinating fabrics
- Fabric A: Bag front & back (wide panel and upper band) - 5/8 yd floral large print fabric
- Fabric B: Bag front & back (narrow panel) - 1/2 yd small floral or "wallpaper stripe" print
- Fabric C: Contrasting flat piping and straps - 1/4 yd small print, check, or solid
- Coordinating Lining: 5/8 yd coordinating solid or print
- Interfacing: (1) 4 1/2" x 30" strip for the upper band
