This bucket bag pattern can be made from fabric scraps, fat quarters, or 2 1/2" wide strips (Bali Pops)! The How Cute is That? Bucket Bag has instructions for lots of creative options and the finished size is 11" (at the top of each point) with a 6" square bottom.
Materials list:
Feature Fabric:
- 3/8 yard of a multi-color, medium-scale print
(Feature Fabric) for two of the bag panels, two
straps, and the binding for the seams inside the
bag.
Cut the following pieces:
- (1) 5" x 40" strips; crosscut:
- (2) 5" x 1 16-1/2" strips for the bag panels
- (2) 1-1/4" x 40" binding strips for bag seams
- (1) strip, 2-1/2" x the width of the fabric (at
least 40" or more) for the straps. Cut
(2) 2-1/2” x 20” strips from it.
Assorted Prints for the Pieced Panels:
- (1) 2-1/2" x 10" strip of each of 8 different coordinating
prints for the pieced panels; cut each
one into (2) 2-1/2” x 5” strips, for a total of 16.
Upper-Edge Binding:
- (1) 2-1/8" x 40" strip of a coordinating print for
the upper-edge binding
Lining:
- (2) 5" x 16-1/2" strips of a coordinating print for
Lining#1 (for Feature-fabric panels)
- (2) 5" x 18" rectangles of a different coordinating
print for Lining #2 for strip-pieced panels;
these are extra long, to be trimmed later.
Interfacing For Straps:
- 2) 2-1/2" x 20" strips of medium-weight
fusible interfacing
Bottom Support:
- (2) 6" squares of a coordinating print
- (2) 6" squares of fusible web
- (1) 6" square of heavyweight interfacing such as
Timtex, Peltex, or similar product
- (1) 1-1/4" x 30" true-bias strip of a coordinating
fabric to bind the edges
Batting:
- 22" square of polyester fleece. Cut:
(2) 5" x 16-1/2” strips for the Feature-fabric
panels
- (2) 5" x 18" rectangles for the pieced panels;
these are extra long, to be trimmed later.
Optional Embellishments and Closure:
- 4 large buttons, 3/4” tot 1" in diameter, for the
strap embellishment
- Hook-and-loop (Velcro) dot closure to join the
bag front and back if desired
