This bucket bag pattern can be made from fabric scraps, fat quarters, or 2 1/2" wide strips (Bali Pops)! The How Cute is That? Bucket Bag has instructions for lots of creative options and the finished size is 11" (at the top of each point) with a 6" square bottom.

Materials list:

Feature Fabric:
  • 3/8 yard of a multi-color, medium-scale print (Feature Fabric) for two of the bag panels, two straps, and the binding for the seams inside the bag.
  • Cut the following pieces:
  • (1) 5" x 40" strips; crosscut:
  • (2) 5" x 1 16-1/2" strips for the bag panels
  • (2) 1-1/4" x 40" binding strips for bag seams
  • (1) strip, 2-1/2" x the width of the fabric (at least 40" or more) for the straps. Cut (2) 2-1/2” x 20” strips from it.
  • Assorted Prints for the Pieced Panels:
  • (1) 2-1/2" x 10" strip of each of 8 different coordinating prints for the pieced panels; cut each one into (2) 2-1/2” x 5” strips, for a total of 16.
  • Upper-Edge Binding:
  • (1) 2-1/8" x 40" strip of a coordinating print for the upper-edge binding
  • Lining:
  • (2) 5" x 16-1/2" strips of a coordinating print for Lining#1 (for Feature-fabric panels)
  • (2) 5" x 18" rectangles of a different coordinating print for Lining #2 for strip-pieced panels; these are extra long, to be trimmed later.

  • Bottom Support:
  • (2) 6" squares of a coordinating print
  • (2) 6" squares of fusible web
  • (1) 6" square of heavyweight interfacing such as Timtex, Peltex, or similar product
  • (1) 1-1/4" x 30" true-bias strip of a coordinating fabric to bind the edges
  • Batting:
  • 22" square of polyester fleece. Cut: (2) 5" x 16-1/2” strips for the Feature-fabric panels
  • (2) 5" x 18" rectangles for the pieced panels; these are extra long, to be trimmed later.

  • Hook-and-loop (Velcro) dot closure to join the bag front and back if desired
