The Abigail handbag/purse pattern has lots of pockets to keep you organized! Featured are 2 decorative front pockets, and 2 side pockets, which close with magnetic snaps.
In addition, there are two, large outer slip pockets on each end of the bag and a large main zippered compartment with a secure
interior zipper pocket. There are also two pockets inside and even a pocket to hold your pen! Professional touches include instructions for metal rings, rivets, and bag feet.
Finished size is approximately 41cm (16") X 18cm (7") X 11.5cm ( 4½").

Materials Needed: Quilting weight Fabric

  • Exterior Fabric: 110 cm (43") of 112cm (40") wide fabric
  • Lining Fabric: 100cm (40") of 112cm (40") wide fabric
  • Sew-in Interfacing - Mid Weight - 30cm (12") (Optional - You can use all Fusible if you prefer- I just like the look of sew-in for my bags body exterior!) I used Shapeform K4200 >/li>
  • Fusible Interfacing: Light-mid weight - 140cm (50") of 112cm (40") wide interfacing. (Suitable choices would be Pellon Shape-Flex SF101, Therm O Web Heat & Bond Soft Fusible Woven, Vilene #G700. Please allow extra yardage for narrower width)
  • Fusible Fleece - 50cm (20"). Mid weight - I used Pellon TP971F Thermolam Plus
  • Matching Thread. (I use Gutermann Polyester)
  • Peltex Piece 8.2cm X 28.5cm (3 2/8" X 11¼")
  • (1) 41cm (16") zipper for zipper closure. (Or longer to be cut down during construction)
  • (1) 20cm (8") zipper to match your lining for the inside pocket. (Or longer to be cut down during construction)
  • (4) 14mm (9/16") Regular Magnetic Snaps .
  • (2) 18mm (¾") Regular Magnetic Snaps.
  • (4) 3.8cm (1½") Diameter Metal Rings for the Straps.
  • (4) 10mm Bag feet. (Optional)
  • (16) 6mm (¼") rivets (Optional) for the Straps & Front Strap Tabs.
  • (1) Zipper Pull (Optional)
  • (2) 39.3cm (15½") Lengths of 12mm (½") Boning. (Optional)

Fabric & Construction Suggestions: This handbag/purse makes up great in quilting cottons. I have not tried making this bag in home dec or upholstery fabrics
as I feel they may be a little too bulky for this design. If you should choose to try a heavier weight fabric I suggest to perhaps leave off the interfacing on the lining
sections otherwise your bag may be rather heavy when finished, even before adding your kitchen sink! Plus some of the seams may get too thick to sew if you have a machine that balks
at thick!
Please bear this in mind when choosing your fabric and interfacing. I have used boning to give the zipper gusset support and while this is optional I really do recommend you
add it if you can get it as it gives the bag that little bit of added support and creates a much more professional looking finish.
